First Things First?

Priorities. We all have them, and if we are truly honest with ourselves, they tend to get out of order, a lot. Even when we have a net little list to remind us of what comes first. Which most often looks like this: 1) God 2) Family 3) Work or some variation of that. But the problem is life is not so simple and sometimes out priorities reorder themselves. Like when we have to work a little more than we’d like, and that means we don’t have as much time to spend with our families.

But the real problem with this kind of list is the top priority in the list and that one is God. I mean it looks good to have God on top, I mean isn’t that what we are supposed to do? True God should be very important in our lives, but putting him on a list isn’t the way to go, especially when we often move our number one to a lower place on the list.

You see God shouldn’t even be on the list. Now hold on a second before you cry out heresy and get ready to stone me. God shouldn’t be on the list because He is more than that. You see our lists often revolve around ourselves as the center of it, about what we can do and about we should spend our time, but that place doesn’t belong to us, it belongs to God! Our list of priorities should revolve around Him, and everything on should be another way experience Him and and other way we glorify Him.

When we let ourselves become the center of our lives, everything goes crazy (even if everything seems ok now), because we don’t know what’s going to happen next, we only have a limited a mount of strength, and we most certainly don’t have control over as much as we think we do.

God needs to be the center of what we do, how we treat our families, how we work, how we treat friends and strangers, how we live out our lives. Because when he isn’t we most certainly will wear ourselves out and end up crashing and burning. Is God at the center of your priorities?
