“We all change. If you think about it, we are all different people all through our lives. And that’s ok, that’s good, you’ve got to keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be.” – The Doctor (The Time of the Doctor)
December 29th, 2013. I found myself locked in my office and I had just hit the breaking point. I broke down weeping (something I don’t often do). I had lost it, yet it was there that God found me. 2013 had not been the best year for me. I mean what do you expect from year that has the unlucky number in it! Just kidding, but it was tough. I faced all kinds of battles, inside and outside. But at that point I found myself ready to change, ready to pick up the pieces and move forward.
Change is inevitable. We all change. Everyday we learn something new, whether we realize it or not. We experience new things, and as each year passes, we become someone different then we were before, because we discover a bit more of who we really are, of who God wants us to be.
But change can be scary, so we cling to the past, even if it’s a painful past, because it’s comfortable, because we know it, its familiar, we’ve been over it in our heads thousands of times. But what’s of ahead of us we know nothing about. Yeah sure we can plan it out, but life is always moving, it’s unexpected, it has ups and downs that would make a roller coaster scream for its life! But that is what makes it exciting.
You see, you and I, we don’t know what is going to happen, but I know someone who does, His name: Jesus. In all of the chaos that is around us, He is the one person that will never change. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) He is the: constant truth, faithful friend, unchanging power, and He always will be.
I am scared of 2014, yes that much is true. I won’t ever be able to get rid of fear in my life, it will always try and break me down and destroy me. But I can still move forward in courage because by my side and inside my very being, the one who holds the future in His hands is with me. And even in the bad times, I know it’ll be ok in the end, because His word says: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
2014 will be filled with challenges, scary things, good things, and miracles, amazing things. And Jesus, He will be right there with me through it all. So all I have to say is, “2014, take your best shot!” Let’s dream big together, and see what God has in store for us, be ready!
