Adulting Is Hard

I have been off the grid for a while, at least blog wise, because I just moved out of my parents house! This is quite the accomplishment seeing as how I am 26 years old and should have done it a long time ago, but life happens and I was broke! Moving is no easy picnic, from getting all of my stuff from one place to the next, buying furniture and appliances, and painting, since most of the rooms needed to be repainted. Adulting is indeed no easy task.

Yet everyone wants to grow up. As kids we think in fractions: “I’m 9 and 1/2!” When we are teens we can’t wait to get to the legal ages, you know the ones, and we want and expect it to be easy. We think it is going to be the most amazing experience ever, but then comes the dreaded four letter word that we cannot avoid WORK (please keep your mind out of the gutter!) Yet no one wants to work; we just want the results now, we live in that kind of world.

We don’t want to work out, but we want abs. We don’t want to wake up and go to a nine to five job, but we want money. We just want the good stuff, while also skipping the work. This is how I often see many Christians approach their faith. We want to be close to God, we want the blessings that God offers us, but no one wants to take the time to pray, to get deep into the word of God, to make a habit out of being in his presence, and NO ONE likes fasting. We just want instant Jesus.

But anything worth doing usually takes work, and that includes our relationship with God. I’ve put in a lot of work into my house, and there is still work to be done, but each time I finish a new project, I am satisfied. When we take the time and effort to grow in our faith, the results will speak for themselves, so I encourage you, don’t give up, draw near to God.
